Walter Rhee received his Bachelor's degree from Cornell in marine biology. He then went into graduate research in shellfish aquaculture. However, eating research animals fascinated Walter more than research which eventually led him to his true passion-- food science, and a Master's degree in food science from the University of Hawaii. He has taught in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and at the University of Hawaii. He has also taught Asian cooking classes at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education (non-profit organization) in Massachusetts for over 14 years.
Furthermore, Walter grew up and traveled throughout South East Asia and the Far East as diplomat’s dependent in the ‘60s and the ‘70s. During those years, he cultivated his knowledge and experience on Asian cooking. He is currently working on a book about Hawaii's hidden eateries.
